Biodiversity of carbapenem-resistant bacteria in clinical samples from the Southwest Amazon region (Rondônia/Brazil)

Brazil’s biodiversity and genetic variability are valuable for understanding bacterial diversity. This study aimed to understand carbapenem-resistant bacteria in clinical samples from Rondônia, Brazil. Retrospective data from LACEN/RO between 2018 and 2021 identified 72 species with carbapenem resistance profiles, with 25 carrying at least one carbapenemase gene. The results could contribute to state surveillance on bacterial resistance and assist in public policy decision-making, improving patient treatment and reducing hospital stays.
